Löwenberg Kammermusikfest

The Löwenberg Story

Gordon Lau and Alex Lau
Löwenberg Kammermusikfest was founded in Munich in 2025 by brothers Gordon Lau and Alex Lau.

Why Löwenberg?

Incidentally, the name of our festival, “Löwenberg,” has nothing to do with the village of the same name in Brandenburg Germany. It refers instead to “Lion Rock,” Hong Kong’s most iconic peak, the hometown of the Lau brothers. The rock doesn’t just resemble a majestic lion, it also embodies a value shared by all of Hong Kong.

In the mid-18th century, Hong Kong was still a small fishing harbor. But under the watchful gaze of Lion Rock, its people, through unshakable will, perseverance, and collective effort, transformed that fishing village into a global metropolis, the “Pearl of the Orient.” This unique spirit of self-reliance and progress became known as the “Lion Rock Spirit.”

We chose this name for our festival to carry that spirit forward, and to present it, far from Hong Kong, into the music we share here in Munich.

Our Vision

Today, solo concerts with celebrated soloists and large orchestras, or symphonic programmes, are often at the forefront. The beauty and variety of the chamber music repertoire — and the potential of chamber music altogether — are frequently underestimated.

Chamber music holds a special place in our hearts. The exchange and the connection between a few musicians on stage create a chemistry entirely of their own. Finding that resonance and making it tangible for an audience is an art that inspires us again and again. We want to share this fascination with the public in Munich — a city that knows how to value and nurture cultural diversity and richness in a special way.

With the second edition of the Löwenberg Kammermusikfest München, we once again take the opportunity to invite musicians of extraordinary musical depth to Munich to give three chamber music concerts here.

We are happy and grateful that one of our concerts will again take place at the Künstlerhaus am Lenbachplatz in the heart of Munich. It is a great honour for the Löwenberg Kammermusikfest to make music in this historic building with its deeply artistic atmosphere.

We are also firmly convinced that music should find its place beyond the classical concert hall — after all, music exists to be shared. Out of this conviction, alongside the formal concert in the centre of Munich, we have developed a social concert addressed to retirement homes and hospitals, as well as a concert outside the city that brings chamber music to music lovers who would otherwise have to travel into Munich.

A special thank you goes to the Bayerisches Rotes Kreuz, which once again offers us the opportunity to perform in the newly built hall “Neue Ziegelei”, and to the Sonnenalp Resort, which is again extending its generous support to us.
